HEICO SPORTIV won the class for alternative fuels within the German Endurance Championship last Saturday at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. That was the first class victory already in the second race of the bioethanol driven C30.
Herewith HEICO SPORTIV showed again the potential of this fuel made of bio-material by Brüggemann Alcohol. Important to notice, that this happened in a class which was dominated by similar powerful diesel race cars. “We have improved the Volvo C30 T5 since the last race and now we are talking about 350 hp”, team chief Andreas Hoffmann said and added: “One of our advantages is the perfect handling of the C30, disadvantageous is the short reach per tank”.
This is caused by the specific attribute of the bioethanol fuel. The Volvo must get fuel after 8 rounds, while the diesel competition comes a couple of rounds later to the pit stop. Calculated over the 4 hour racing distance it means one complete service more fore us. And this means a perfect strategy has first priority.
The rainy qualifying was won by Luca Ludwig and Henning Meyersrenken (BMW), the HEICO SPORTIV employees and racing pilots Patrick Brenndörfer and Martin Müller placed the Volvo C30 on the 3rd position.
The “33.DMV Münsterlandpokal” race started on a dry track. Brenndörfer and Müller decided for slicks and graduated theirturns according to plan, team and drivers persuaded by quick pit stops and and constant lap-times. On the track many oil spots created several crashes and plenty action. Also the team of HEICO SPORTIV did not stay untroubled – a small problem shortly before the end created lots of agitations.
After this forced short stop Brenndörfer started for the finishing attack and could overtake the leading BMW 335d from Steiner/Guttroff/Beckers. This was the key to the victory, which was secured by HEICO SPORTIV with a head start of 45 seconds. On top of that the Toyo Tires equipped Volvo C30 with 9:35.091 minutes run the very best lap time ever for HEICO SPORTIV on the 24,4 km long combination of Nürburgring sprint track and Nordschleife.
“We are very proud, to made the first victory for the Volvo C30 in Germany and could again demonstrate - after our last victory in the 6h-race 2007 - the potential of bioethanol in long distance races”, finally team boss Andreas Hoffmann said.
